Founder - Manipal Group (1898-1979)

Our founder, Dr T.M.A. Pai (Padma Shri awardee), laid the foundation of Manipal way back in 1953 with the establishment of Kasturba Medical College, India's first self-financed private medical institution. His principles continue to shape the Group's ethos across education, healthcare, and multiple new businesses.

Chancellor - Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE)

Building on the vision of his father, Dr Ramdas Pai played a pivotal role in expanding Manipal's academic ecosystem in India and overseas. Under his inspiring leadership, the Group achieved national and global scale, MAHE was granted Deemed-to-be-University status, and Manipal forayed into healthcare with the establishment of the first Manipal Hospital in 1993. His contributions to education and healthcare earned him the Padma Bhushan from the Government of India, the 'Datuk' award from the Government of Melaka (Malaysia), and the Golden Peacock Lifetime Achievement Award.

Under Dr Ranjan Pai's leadership, the Manipal legacy has evolved into a diversified enterprise spanning education, healthcare, insurance, research, online learning, and private investments, making it one of the top conglomerates in India. In 2000, he corporatized the organization through the formation of the Manipal Education & Medical Group. He also scaled Manipal Hospitals, building a nationwide multi-specialty healthcare network that has become a key pillar of the Manipal ecosystem. Dr Ranjan continues to build on the trust established over generations, ensuring the legacy remains relevant and impactful by taking the Group to greater heights.
